A certain hog farmer refused to have anything to do with the church because all he ever saw in it was a bunch of hypocrites, he said. When invited, he always named two or three without fail.
One day the pastor came by to buy a hog from him. After looking over the farmer's entire swine herd, the pastor pointed to a very scrawney, sickly, ugly little runt and said, "I want that one. That's my pick."
The farmer protested. "Why, preacher, you don't want that one; he's the scrawniest runt in the whole lot. Look. Here are some fine hogs over here."
"That's all right," said the preacher. "I want that one."
After the purchase was completed, the pastor said, "Now, I am going to haul this pig all over the country and tell everyone this is the kind of hogs you raise."
"Hey, preacher, that's not fair." protested the farmer. "I raise fine hogs. An occasional runt doesn't ruin my entire stock."
The pastor said, "I'm only following your example, condemning a whole church because of the stunted spirituality of a few."
The farmer got the point.
(Percy Crawford was an evangelist and youth worker. Whenever someone talked to him about hypocrites in the church, he would just say, "Come on in; there's room for one more." Anyone who would go to Hell over a hypocrite must certainly be the most unthinking person around. The fact that one is a hypocrite tells me that there must be the real thing somewhere.) ---Copied
